The remains of the Roman villa at Le Prieuré: situated up on the hillside of Le Prieuré in Pully, this sumptuous terraced villa would have offered delightful views of Lake Geneva to its Roman-era occupants. Unique in its kind in Switzerland, the building comprised thermal baths, gardens, and open premises. Only a semi-circular pavilion now remains and is open to visitors. One of the most significant finds from the excavations that lasted ten years is a rare fresco. Found as thousands of fragments scattered all over the ground, it has been reconstructed and mounted on the semi-circular wall. The stunning wall painting features an architectural trompe l’œil depicting scenes of chariot racing. The ArchéoLab is continually renewing its exhibitions, allowing visitors to slip into the role of amateur archaeologist and travel back to the Roman era.
