On the occasion of the annual awards ceremony of the Middle East edition of the travel magazine Condé Nast Traveller held on 14 December in Abu Dhabi, the Canton of Vaud was listed among the travellers’ preferred destinations.
After greeting the regional and international tourism professionals present, editor-in-chief of the prestigious magazine, Rhea Shara, called up the winners of a total of 22 categories, ranging anywhere between hotels and aviation, cruises and tour operators.
The prizes are voted for every year by residents of Middle Eastern countries and readers of the magazine, and constitute a recompense for excellence within the travel industry. The Canton of Vaud was thus voted Favourite road trip destination 2017, overtaking Italy and California among the nominations.
The award is a token of appreciation for the accomplishments of the Lake Geneva Region Tourist Office and its partners in the Middle East markets. Since the beginning of 2017, promotion efforts have been increased. The Lake Geneva Region Tourist Office issued a public relations mandate to an agency based in Dubai for the promotion of Lausanne and Montreux Riviera as principal destinations. In 2017, the tourism office and its destinations received some twenty journalists and social influencers, thus enhancing the visibility and renown of the region in the media.
