Safeguarding work is currently underway at the Abbey of Payerne to restore the site and develop a new visitor route.
The Abbey of Payerne, the largest Romanesque church in Switzerland, is at the heart of an ambitious project for maintenance, restoration and enhancement. The work made it possible to ensure its conservation and to preserve the thousand-year-old building.
In parallel with these important works on the monument, the Market Square has been redeveloped into a paved and pedestrian area, in order to provide a beautiful setting for the Abbey Church. In addition, a new trail unveiling the site's stories is about to be launched.
The Abbey and the Museum are temporarily closed during the work. The opening celebration of the site will take place in May 2020.
