On arriving at the Moulin d’Assens held by Alain and Daniela Laval, our sensation is pleasantly familiar. The setting just like the dishes are of a simple authenticity that has become a rare treat. Grilled meats are the restaurant’s specialty: the room is filled with the pleasant fragrance of beef, veal or even ostrich roasting gently in the fireplace to charming crackling sounds. Poultry and fish are offered as starters, for example wonderful bouillabaisse or fish stew. Home-made bread is the perfect accompaniment for the cheeses, while the well-commented wine card complements each meal.
