Well before being a nature reserve, the banks of Lake Morat at Chenevières-de-Guévaux were a welcoming place for the Swiss people of the Middle Ages. After it became green and a protector of several species, the area was threatened by a camping project. That was the trigger that paved the way for the creation of the Chenevières-de-Guévaux nature reserve, thanks to the municipality, the Vaud State and the inhabitants, but above all, thanks to Pro Natura, the Swiss association for the protection of nature.
This successful collaboration not only allowed the site to be preserved, but also to make it attractive to the public, thanks to a charming path for strollers. But the work is far from being over: the farmers in the region will have to wait several years before being able to harvest the old varieties of fruit, grown according to precise criteria. As for Pro Natura, every effort is made to see the return of the Alcon Blue butterfly that only lays its eggs on the Marsh Gantian flowers.
