Discover the Lapiaz de Truex, a spectacular geological formation nestling between mountain pastures and ridges, accessible via this mountain itinerary.
From La Berneuse (gondola access), the trail takes you past the mythical Tours d'Aï and Mayen and across a string of mountain lakes - Yaka, Aï, Mayen and Segray - offering breathtaking panoramas.
Not far from Lac d'Aï, you can stop off at the Village d'Aï refreshment bar, near the Leysin-Tête d'Aï chairlift, to enjoy local specialities in a relaxing setting. Further along the route, the Refuge de Mayen welcomes you before reaching the spectacular Lapiaz de Truex: a tangle of crevasses and grooves carved into the limestone by melting snow. In summer, vegetation invades the cracks, creating a fascinating landscape of stone and greenery. After this unique passage, the climb continues to the top of the Famelon tower, from where a breathtaking view of the Vaud Alps opens up.
The route can also be taken in the other direction, starting from the Restaurant des Fers, which also offers a fine gourmet stopover. You'll then climb directly to the top of the Famelon tower, before descending through the lapiaz and on to the Refuge de Mayen, the lakes and the other high-altitude refreshment stands.
Whichever direction you choose, this hike invites you to immerse yourself in Leysin's alpine nature, with its spectacular geology, panoramic views and local delights.
